The Field Engineer for structural steel will support all sales and market development activities while working with design professionals, specifiers and steel fabricators to obtain specification of Simpson structural steel product offerings. This position is based in Southern California and provides technical services to Southern California, Southern Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso Texas. You will assist sales team to evaluate and establish channels of distribution for sales opportunities and provide technical support for Simpson structural steel design software tools. You will also assist with jobsite support for structural steel projects and provide technical support to steel fabricators/detailers. You will communicate customer feedback and requests to the Market Development Manager, Product Managers and engineers and assist with development and review of literature for structural steel product offering.WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)Provide technical support for getting specification for Structural Steel components offered by SST. (25%)Conduct technical presentations for individuals, groups and professional associations involved in new construction and/or the upgrade of existing structural steel systems focusing on general technical knowledge as well as the advantages of specifying of Simpson products. (Training on SST design software to gain specification) (25%)Assist sales team to evaluate and establish channels of distribution to support sales opportunities of structural steel specifications. (25%)Develop and maintain relationships with engineers, engineering firms and steel fabricators within the region. (15%)Coordinate and assist with development of marketing and technical literature. (10%)DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEIf you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer Required (CA/NV preferred)
  • B.S. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Construction knowledge: Practical working knowledge of common steel construction methods. Familiarity with Simpson products is a plus.
  • Structural design experience in structural steel projects. Experiences in design of wood, masonry, concrete a plus.
  • Speaking and communication: Communicate verbally in an appropriate way for the audience he/she is speaking to. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, and other groups.
  • Customer focus: Quickly and effectively solve customer problems and maintain productive internal and external customer relationships. Readily readjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing customer needs. Recognize potentially adverse customer reactions and develop better alternatives.
  • Maintain a collaborative approach in dealing with other Simpson Strong-Tie employees. Demonstrate a genuine commitment to reach mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Computer experience (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ACAD, Revit, various design and detailing software). Experience with using structural analysis software ETAB, Ram Structural, and RISA preferred.
  • Driving record: Possess and maintain a driving record which complies with company policy.
  • Travel away from home with occasional overnight stays.Travel This job requires domestic travel up to 50% of the time.Work Status & LocationThis full-time, exempt position is managed from Southern California, is open to remote work, and provides technical services to Southern California, Southern Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso Texas.RelocationRelocation may be considered for this position.Pay $74,900 - $110,000 / AnnuallyAdditionally, you are eligible to participate in our Cash Profit Sharing (CPS) bonus program.
