Overview Open & closing dates 09/09/2019 to 09/18/2019 Service Competitive Pay scale & grade GS 13 Salary $88,704 to $115,313 per year Appointment type Term Work schedule Full-Time Location 1 vacancy in the following location: El Paso, TX Relocation expenses reimbursed No Telework eligible No Duties Summary About the Position: The Supervisory Industrial Hygienist position is located in William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Preventive Medicine Service, Industrial Hygiene Section. *This is a TERM position Not to Exceed 3 years and may be extended in 12 month increments up to 6 years* *This position may be filled by a TEMPORARY PROMOTION or TEMPORARY REASSIGNMENT. Please see Additional Information Section Below for more information TEMPORARY PROMOTION, TEMPORARY REASSIGNMENT, and TERM EMPLOYMENT* Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Formulates local regulations, guidelines, and training packages addressing IH issues. Develops, coordinates, and maintains a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene Implementation Plan. Coordinates extensive literature searches to identify and evaluate chemical exposures. Works with engineers to develop cost effective control measures, such as the use of alternate materials, personal protective devices, etc. Schedules, coordinates and oversees health hazards evaluations/survey to ensure the workplace is in compliance with current appropriate regulations. Plans work schedules and sequence of operations to ensure the meeting of scheduled and priority assignments the higher level supervisor establishes. Assigns and reviews work, ensuring that work output is of acceptable quality and quantity. Evaluates work by reviewing it in progress, upon completion, or, as appropriate, on a spot check basis. Travel Required 25% or less - You may be expected to travel for this position. Secret security Clearance is required. This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position requires the incumbent to work long hours in uncomfortable climates, such as very hot and humid, or cold, wet weather, and wear uncomfortable protective and safety clothing and equipment when conducting industrial hygiene surveys. The incumbent may be exposed to chemical, physical, and biological health hazards requiring the ability to wear respiratory, hearing, vision, and other protective equipment as recommended by OSHA, NIOSH, DOD, and other consensus organizations. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. This is an obligated position. This position requires a one year supervisory probation period. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Industrial Hygienist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves carrying out health hazard evaluations of a wide variety of medical and/or industrial worksites to anticipate, recognize, and evaluate health hazards; develop evaluation criteria to assess industrial hygiene conformance and analyze findings from industrial hygiene assessments.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to plan and organize work Environmental Compliance and Preventive Action Hazardous Materials Hazardous Materials Response Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
