Job DescriptionPosition: Sewing Machine OperatorReports To: Project ManagerWork Location: Fort Bliss, TXJob Description: Advantage SCI is seeking a Sewing Machine Operator to be considered for full time employment. Summary of Duties includes, but is not limited to: Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Operates power sewing machines to sew, alter or repair wearing apparel, and other fabric articlesAlters article according to alteration ticket, fitter's pins, chalk marks, or verbal instructions.Locates defects, and repairs article, including ripping of seams and matching sizes and colors of replacement parts and using heat-sealing iron to patch articles.May operate automatic sewing machines, utilizing knowledge of threading machines, winding bobbins, adjusting tension, and oiling parts.Work is reviewed for accuracy, neatness, and to determine if instructions have been followed.Join together parts of textile (including apparel) articles, gather hem, reinforce, or add decorative trim to articles, attach buttons or other fasteners to articles by machine, using needle and thread. Include Stitching Machine Operators, Collar Basters.Duties may vary dependent on department/directorate.Experience and SkillsEssential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education:High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience:4-5 years' experience in sewing and embroidery Specialized knowledge and skills:Refer to orders for sewing garments and select appropriate materialsEnsure that all materials and auxiliary supplies are available prior to beginning workStart sewing machinery at the beginning of a shift and test it for proper functionalityAddress any discrepancies or problems faced during the testing periodDraw threads through needles and adjust machine functions to meet the requirements of the sewing projectPosition materials under needles to sew them together or make patternsReplace and rethread needles for a subsequent project or in case of the existing one needing more threadSew missing stitches or replacement parts in accordance to repair instructions providedObserve operations to detect any faults or defects in stitchingNotify supervisors of any problems or discrepancies during the sewing processAttach button.Ensure that the finished product conforms to the design and merchandizing instructions provided in the work orderEnsure that excess material or threads are cut away from the finished productTrim finished garments using scissors and cuttersPerform general and preventative maintenance tasks on sewing machines to ensure their longevityExamine finished garments for compliance and ensure that appropriate tags are sewed on themCount number of garments stitched during a shift and record this information in company provided logsWork Environment and Physical DemandsOffice environment: Maintain a tidy work spaceRequired to observe all safety and health requirements for office environment.Must have a neat and professional appearance.Exceptional customer service skillsAbility to work as a team member.Must be able to lift 25 Lbs. continuously, 50 Lbs. intermittentlyAdvantage SCI, LLC is an Equal Opportunity EmployerEXECUTIVE ORDER 11246 Prohibits discrimination against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, or national origin and requires affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and employees treated, without regard to race, sex, color, genetic information, religion, or national origin.
