On behalf of our client and the U.S. Department of Education, Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking Classroom Observers to work on a national evaluation of the Comprehensive Literacy State Development program .Both bilingual and non-bilingual individuals who have experience working with grade 3-5 literacy are encouraged to apply!Our client is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and delivers technical assistance to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. They believe equity begins with systems that work for everyone, so they lead with expertise, follow the evidence, and never stop drawing new connections to build a better, more equitable world.Position DescriptionClassroom observers will conduct in-class observations of 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th grade teachers English Language Arts and literacy instruction in elementary schools located in the El Paso area, Texas. Observers will use the Protocol for Language Arts Teaching Observations (PLATO) or Classroom Observations of Student-Teacher Interactions (COSTI) data collection instruments to measure specific features of literacy instruction. Pay for this position is $35 per hour. Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate when traveling from one school to another.Job RequirementsAvailable to attend a virtual training tentatively scheduled the week of December 5th, 2022 for PLATO or virtual training tentatively scheduled the week of December 5th for COSTIPass virtual training for PLATO or COSTIPass in-field reliability check during first week of observationsPass School District required background check and fingerprinting processes; follow all COVID-19 and other health-related requirements of the district and AIRAvailable to work 35 hours/week from January 9 th through March 27 th , 2023, from 7:30 am-3:30 pmAccess to personal, reliable transportationAccess to personal, reliable computer with internet connectionWilling to travel reasonable distances (average of 9 miles between schools) to reach assigned schoolsStrictly adhere to AIR's and the school district's procedures to protect the privacy of children and familiesMaintain contact with the observation team leader and other project team membersSubmit completed observation rubrics and timesheets daily to the team leaderAbility to work well independently and under the direction of team leadersStrong interpersonal skills with both adults and childrenSchedule and HoursTraining: This position will begin with a virtual training the week of December 5 on how to use the PLATO and COSTI data collection instruments, followed immediately by virtual, asynchronous practice. In addition, training includes synchronous check in calls with the expert trainers. Classroom observers are required to pass a certification test on using the PLATO or COSTI data collection instruments. In addition, observers are required to pass an in-field reliability check during their first week of observations to continue employment on the project. Observers will be paid for all training activities. Attendance at training is mandatory . Trainees must successfully complete training to continue employment on the project.Timing: In-class observations will begin as early as the week of January 9 th , 2023, and continue through March 2023. Qualified candidates must be available to commit for the entire length of the observation window.Time Commitment: During training, observers should expect 40-60 hours over 4 weeks for PLATO and 20 hours over 4 weeks for COSTI. Of the training hours, about 10 hours of will be synchronous training at a set day/time. The remaining training hours may be completed asynchronously during any other hours of the week that fit observers' schedules. Certified classroom observers should expect 35 hours of work each week during daytime school hours.
