POSITION SUMMARY: The RN Resident is a registered nurse participating in a specified training program which is standardized based on area of specialization. The training includes orientation, combined with unit based, precepted clinical experiences and didactic instruction. The RN Resident is under the direct supervision of their Preceptor and Supervisor Nursing Unit. According to hospital policies and procedures, by the direction of their Preceptor, the Immersion Resident assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (The essential responsibilities and accountabilities of this position including interactions with other departments and outside vendors, if applicable, in PRIORITY order.)

Progress towards successful completion of training plan and demonstrates expected competencies.

Completes mandatory education and competency requirements in specified timeframe

Completes Life Safety Orientation Competencies (LSOC) as well as facility/unit specific competency checklist, age specific competency requirements.

Completes HIPAA/HITECH training and Ethics and Compliance training, maintains confidentiality practices.

Meets regulatory (at least weekly) with Preceptor, Educator, Manager/Director to track progress utilizing the Orientation Pathways Evaluation Level Tool.

Plans comprehensive nursing care for assigned patients according to written hospital standards and physician orders.

Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic facts affect the patient populations under their case. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)

Identifies and prioritizes relevant nursing diagnoses and critical pathways as appropriate.

Completes admission assessment and documents accurately. Completes and documents an admission assessment within appropriate timeframe.

Performs and documents patient assessments and reassessments completely and accurately according to unit policy or more frequently, as indicated by patient condition.

Identifies changes in patient condition (i.e. test results, abnormal findings, etc.) and reports these changes to the physician and/or SNU.

Initiates discharge planning upon admission.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team

Assesses and documents patient and family educational needs on admission and throughout hospitalization.

Provides and documents care to assigned patients in compliance with written hospital policies and procedures and based on standards of care.

Performs and documents nursing care according to patient needs in a competent and timely manner.

Initiates chain of command, as necessary, to appropriately care for patients.

Accurately administers and documents medication per policy and procedure.

Evaluates patient care outcomes in an appropriate and timely manner.

Evaluates plan of care to determine need for modifications in a timely and prompt

manner according to established P&P's orders sets, and protocols. Documents appropriately.

Evaluates effectiveness of patient teaching and revises teaching plan as indicated.

Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant in an acute care setting.

EDUCATION REQUIRED (Minimum formal academic training which typically provides the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance. Note in Other if experience may be substituted.) Graduation from an accredited/approved school of professional nursing, less than 6 month. Completion of ADN or BSN degree. ADN Graduates: Enrollment in a RN to BSN program is required within 1 year of hire date. Completion of BSN Program required within 3 years of enrollment.
