POSITION SUMMARY:-- Under the general supervision of the unit Directoror designee the Clinical Educator assumes responsibility for direction andcoordination of all functions in the unit on his/her designated shifts.-- In collaboration with other members of themanagement team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment ofthe quality of patient care services provided in unit.-- The Clinical Educator also provides feedbackto the nursing director regarding patient care, budgetary, and strategicplanning opportunities for improvement. The Clinical Educator is responsiblefor the on-going education of the entire staff on Labor & Delivery andPostpartum across all populations served.--POPULATION SERVED:Promoting the health of the Mother, Newborn, and GYNpatients.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:Identifies and assesses learning needs of department employees by observing care being delivered, reviewing quality assurance data, and seeking input from the department staff and manager.Develops list of education needs and identifies best method for meeting needs of employees, including, but not limited to, perinatal college, in-service education, certification programs, outside workshops/seminars, and professional readings.Develops schedule of planned educational offerings and coordinates scheduling dates with other offerings within and outside the hospital.Researches topics to be presented and facilitates various education activities, e.g.., certification--programs (BCLS, NRP, etc.), in-services,--unit clinical rotations of Nursing Students, skills fairs, simulation lab, etc.Evaluates effectiveness of educational activities and revises materials as necessary in order to maximize clinical certification of nurses.Collaborates with both the medical and nursing directors to initiate and evaluate clinical practice standards and protocols.Develops, interprets, and reviews policies and procedures within the services provided. Ensures department employees are kept informed of changes to unit policies, procedures, patient care standards, and are trained in use of new equipment, supplies and/or instruments.Maintains accurate records of competencies, educational activities offered and communicates and reports as appropriate.Maintains own clinical and educational competence by staffing-in and working in clinical units, as indicated and when necessary.Provides support to and works with the Administrative Director of Education in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating continuing nursing education (CNE) activities.Collaborates with the multidisciplinary teams such as physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmacy, etc. in evaluating and making recommendations for treatment. Ensure compliance with guidelines/regulations of overseeing agencies/organizations Assists with the recruitment, training, and retention of competent staff Collaborates, develops and participates in marketing of the Department, including educational program development, external advertising and working in alliance with local and regional programs.Remains resourceful at all times.You will be required to staff in the department for either dayshift or nightshift as the dept needs to maintain patient safety.You will be required to staff a minimum of one major and one minor holiday. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • RN licensed in state of Texas/Compact state
  • BCLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart MonitoringREQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor---sDegree in Nursing
    • Breastfeeding and lactationeducation
    • Minimum of 5 years ofL&D/OB experiencePREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION,EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
      • Master'sdegree in Nursing.
      • Fiveyears experience in L&D/OB/GYN with two years as a staff educator. Advancedtraining in techniques of neonatal intensive care nursing.
      • Written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and Power Point. Utilization of audio-visual materials.
      • Excellent communicator withengaging and effective presentation skills
      • AWHONN Intermediate FetalMonitoring Instructor
      • AWHONN Membership
      • NRP instructor
      • NCC or ANCC certification--
