Academic Acute Care Surgeon Texas Tech University Health
Sciences Center El Paso Overview: The Department of Surgery at
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) is
seeking an academic surgeon to enhance our established acute care
surgery program encompassing trauma, surgical critical care,
emergency general surgery and burns. The candidate should enjoy
teaching surgical critical care fellows, residents, and medical
students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly
activities within the Surgery Department.This is an excellent
opportunity to have a pivotal role as the Surgery Department grows
clinically and academically as a regional referral center.
University Medical Center of El Paso (UMCEP) is the only level I
trauma center for a 270-mile radius serving a population of 1.23
million in far west Texas and southern New Mexico.Annual trauma
volume exceeds 3,900 trauma admissions of which approximately 650
have an Injury Severity Score > /= 15. Position Description:
TTUHSCEP is seeking an acute care surgeon for their level 1 trauma
center. This surgeon will be a critical team member of the academic
team and will be a key player in growing the program. They will
provide oversight fellows, residents and advance practice
providers. This is an ideal position for someone wanting to build
an academic career. Clinical Service: Call Collaborate with the
other trauma/SICU/emergency surgeons to ensure appropriate call
coverage at UMCEP. The Department anticipates a future Burn
Center.Candidate will participate in the Burn programs call
schedule.Details regarding call coverage and stipend remains to be
determined.Burn call may be performed during the surgeons
restricted trauma/emergency surgery call. Inpatient/ Outpatient day
General Surgery and Trauma clinic per week. Participate in the SICU
and Trauma weekday daytime (8am-5pm) coverage. Provide 4 weekdays
per month of daytime (8am-5pm) emergency surgery coverage at UMC.
This can be done in conjunction with daytime trauma call. Maintain
a minimum of 8,000 wRVUs per year. Qualifications: MD/DO Successful
completion of General Surgery Residency program Successful or
pending completion of Surgical Critical Care fellowship Board
Certified/Board Eligible in general surgery and surgical critical
care Willingness to participate in training of fellows and
expansion of academic program Licensed to practice medicine in
Texas, or ability to obtain a Texas license Participate in
research, outreach and other scholarly activities.Do not have to
have active research but there needs to be the potential for
