OverviewUnder the supervision of the Medical Care Coordinator the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing medical care and treatment to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC), such as administering immunizations, ordering medication, conducting medical assessments and diagnostic testing, and medical treatment as prescribed by a licensed medical or clinical professional in accordance to Agency policies, licensing and funding standards, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties

Conduct routine health screenings and perform basic health assessment; assess each UAC's unique medical needs and ensure they are properly met in a timely manner; report routine medical needs to the Medical Care Coordinator or Clinical Director per Agency policy and licensing standardsAdminister medication and treatment to UAC as prescribed or as needed in accordance with licensing standards; coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed; coordinate and oversee the prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for UAC as prescribedKeep medication files and maintain inventory of all prescribed medications; order medication and supplies as neededAssist with the assessment, development, and evaluation of a UAC individualized service plan based on UAC medical needs and condition; use care plans as a basis for providing therapeutic care to UACMonitor UAC response to treatment plans and identify adverse medication interactions and notify Medical Care Coordinator or Clinical Director as deemed appropriateCreate, update, and maintain accurate and up-to-date UAC case files and records with information pertaining to nursing care, child's medical history, treatment plans, and observations; chart all pertinent information in the UAC case files/records in accordance to Agency policy and licensing standardsWork closely with clinical and program team to admit, transfer, and discharge UAC as directedSupport and enforce infection-control policies and proceduresUse assessment information and UAC care during the shift to develop a care plan that accurately communicates the required and needed information for incoming shift to properly and adequately care for the UACRespond to all crisis situations in a timely manner; ensure all internal and external parties are properly notified in a timely manner; report incidents according to licensing standardsAssist with the safe and physical evacuation of UAC during an emergency situation or natural disaster Complete insurance forms and other paperwork as they relate to treatment plans, placement and discharge summaries and administration of medicationComplete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as requested and to remain in compliance with licensing and funding standardsPlan, schedule, and facilitate trainings for staff, such as blood borne pathogens, CPR and First AidOn-call services for medical emergencies and needsOther duties and special projects as assigned Working Relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management, staff, UAC, families and sponsors, community partners, and professional service providersWork closely with the Clinical Director and staff to ensure UAC are receiving the highest quality of care and the program is operating efficiently and effectively and is meeting the goals and objectives of the program and the needs of the UACWork as a team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practicesQualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • 1-year medical setting experience
  • Must be at least 21 years of ageAbility to maintain a professional approach and build a rapport and trust with residents and their familiesConsistently follows established standards, policies, and procedures in providing nursing careStrong writing skills with the ability to document and maintain accurate resident files/recordsStrong customer service, interpersonal, and people skills; ability to work and interact with diverse groups of people and handle stressful and emotional situationsStrong relationship management skills with the ability to work with a team in a collaborative mannerStrong time management and organizational skills with the ability to pay very close attention to details and meet deadlinesAbility to resolve conflict and respond to resident issues with professionalism, tact, and empathyProficient in use of personal computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and information systems used to document and record resident informationBilingual (English and Spanish based on service area and service population)Preferred Qualifications
    • 2 years' CMA experience
    • Experience working with pediatrics and adolescents, highly preferredPhysical Demands & Work Conditions
      • This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time
      • Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children
